January 19th

Took a day off pretty much everything, including walking. (Shame, shame...)

January 19th:
3595 steps
1.4 miles

TOTAL= 59.6 / 458 miles

Still just hovering near the border of Farmer Maggot's fields... Maybe I'm put off by his name. I mean, really. Maggot? He could at least adopt a faux-French pronunciation and drop the 't'! ;o)

About this Blog

This blog began when I read about a walking challenge over on Ravelry, based on the Èowyn Challenge.

The basic idea is to walk a certain number of miles, which corresponds to a specific distance on a map of Middle-Earth. (It's all based on the paths taken by the characters in Tolkien's novels.)

So far, I've walked from Hobbiton to Rivendell (458 miles, first half of 2016), from Rivendell to Lothlorien (462 miles, second half of 2016), and the 470-mile distance between Rauros and Isengard (first half+ of 2017). Now I'm tackling the 786 miles from Isengard to Minas Tirith.

I'm counting every step recorded by my pedometer as a step on the path through Middle-Earth-- not just my dedicated "exercise walking" (time on the treadmill, purposeful walking on trails, etc.).

This blog is sure to be very boring to read, as its chief purpose is to serve as a handy digital notepad to record miles walked. But if it helps motivate me to walk more than I otherwise might, it's doing its job!
